We are very happy to have presented Bronze Awards to three young collectors at the Cottage on Saturday 9th September.  We are delighted that our little museum is their favourite!

What is Kent Children’s University^tm?

Kent Children’s University^tm (KCU) is part of an international charity that provides 5-11 year olds with access to exciting and innovative CU Learning Activities and experiences outside the normal school day.  They reward children’s participation in voluntary learning activities that will develop their skills and raise aspirations for the future.

How does CU work?

The Children’s University (CU) is able to recognise and reward children for all the additional learning they participate in voluntarily outside normal school hours.  Once registered through a school or direct through the local CU, children can earn Learning Credits in a variety of ways including participating in activities held at “Public Learning Destinations.”  Children are provided with a Passport to Learning for them to collect Credits as evidence of their learning.

Once children achieve a fixed number of Learning Credits, they will have the opportunity to have their successes celebrated at a very special Graduation Ceremony at either Canterbury Christ Church University, The University of Greenwich (Medway Campus) or the University of Kent.

Great news!  Our new porch is now installed with a lovely stained glass panelled door.  Thank you to Kevin O’Brien of Traditional Building Ltd for hand-building it for us.   It makes a very welcoming entrance for our visitors, gives us space for displaying our merchandise and keeps the winter chills and winds out!  No chillblains for our loyal volunteers!ur

Our grateful thanks go to Queenborough Fishery Trust for their generous grant to the Sheppey Promenade Charity which funds the Cottage.

On Saturdays in the summer, we serve tea, coffee and cake in the garden at the back of the Cottage.  Come and make the most of your visit by sampling our home made refreshments.
